Modern cameras allow their handlers to choose between different Scene Capture Types. They contain camera settings that are optimized for the respective purpose, thus telling the camera how lighting, ISO, aperture and the like should be in order to take a specific picture. The most common Scene Capture Types are, among others:
- Standard
- Landscape
- Portrait
- Neutral
- Faithful
- Monochrome
- Night scene
The names, as well as specific settings, may differ between cameras.
The exif information of the Scene Capture Type thus gives information about presets used by the camera for the image or shot in question. This information is not given by all cameras, hence why the value for this image metadata can also be empty or feature an “unknown”.
Videos taken with cameras able to set a Scene Capture Type can also contain this type of meta information.
