What Is Camera Make?

Digital cameras, DSLRs, and the camera of a phone or tablet can create many different kinds of files. This includes different video file formats as well as two major kinds of images: camera RAW images and compressed images like JPGs.

All these files can contain exif information about the Camera Make of the camera it was shot with. This information differs from the Camera Model. You can read up about this kind of metadata here: What’s The Camera Model?

The information on the Camera Model is very specific, while the Camera Make gives you the basic information about the maker or fabricator of the camera in question. The very basics you can find for this meta information are, for example:

  • Apple
  • Arri
  • Canon
  • Nikon

In some cases, the Camera Make may also contain further information not only about the camera maker, but also the series of models. For example:

  • Nikon D3s
  • Canon EOS
